Dorset Buttons

“The earliest  Dorset buttons were produced by local sheep farmers.”

Dorset buttons are from a period of history, 1600’s to 1850’s, where buttons were made by hand, originating in the county of Dorset, England. At the beginning of the 17th century, menswear required larger and more practical buttons. Hence, button craftsmen were creating the buttons instead of tailors.

The earliest  Dorset buttons were produced by local sheep farmers. In 1622, as the Industrial Age progressed, the home made Dorset  button became obsolete. The Dorset buttons made at Posh Button are lovingly hand fashioned in the Dorset Cartwheel style.

"I just received the Dorset button kit in today’s mail. I will be posting them off to my friend Lydia who dyes and spins her own wool and has been talking about making her own Dorset buttons for only about 40+ years. I know she will be thrilled to have the kit to make her very own."
